PTE Test Cost, At-Home Rules and Test Centers Near You

PTE test fees depend on your test and country. PTE Academic cannot currently be taken at home: you attend an authorized test center. Use Pearson’s location and fee tools to check the current price and nearby appointments before booking.

How much does the PTE English test cost?

There is no universal PTE exam price. Pearson publishes local pricing through its PTE Academic price finder. Choose the country where you will actually sit the test. A fee quoted for another country, another test version or an earlier year may not apply to your booking.

To get a usable budget, record the test name, currency and final checkout total together. “PTE costs 300” is incomplete without the currency and location. If you are comparing two cities or countries, compare the full trip cost rather than converting only the exam fee.

A practical worksheet is: exam checkout total + travel + chosen preparation + applicable payment charges = planned first-attempt cost. Keep a possible retake budget separate so you can see both your immediate spending and your maximum affordable plan.

For example, a nearby appointment may be better value than a slightly cheaper test that requires a hotel. This is a budgeting example, not a claim that any particular center has a lower fee. Avoid committing to nonrefundable travel until your appointment is confirmed.

Read the current booking and appointment-management guidance before paying. If your plans change, check the rules for your actual appointment rather than relying on an old refund chart. Review Pearson’s payment policy if you intend to use a voucher.

Can I take the PTE exam at home?

No: Pearson’s current PTE Academic FAQ says the test cannot be taken at home. It is computer-based, but the computer is at an authorized center. See the delivery rules in the official PTE Academic FAQ.

Three activities can easily be confused: booking online, practising online and taking an official test remotely. The first two do not establish that the third is available. If a search result mentions “PTE Academic Online,” check the date and compare it with the current official booking options before making plans.

PTE Home does not mean home delivery. It is a different product family, and Pearson’s PTE Home FAQ says candidates attend a secure test center. Select a test because your receiving organization requires or accepts it, not because its name sounds convenient.

You can still prepare at home. Practise typing, speaking clearly into a microphone and working through tasks without interruptions. Preparation builds familiarity; it does not replace the official center appointment.

PTE test centers: how to find one near you

Use Pearson’s official test centers and fees page as your starting point. It links to availability for different PTE tests. A map listing for an English school or coaching business does not by itself establish that it is an authorized exam venue.

1. Confirm your test. Write down the exact product required by the university, employer or authority receiving the result.
2. Open the matching availability tool. Search your town, city or nearby area using the location options provided.
3. Compare actual appointments. A convenient address is useful only if a suitable date and time are available.
4. Check the journey. Compare public transport, parking, arrival instructions and a backup route.
5. Review the booking details. Confirm the test, venue address, appointment date, local time and total price before payment.
6. Save the confirmation. Use its venue and arrival information for test day, then check your account for subsequent updates.

If nothing suitable appears, broaden the location search or compare another date. Do not assume that every center offers every PTE product. If you need an accommodation, use Pearson’s support process before committing to an appointment that may not meet your needs.

Read reviews as practical travel information, not evidence of easier scoring. Reports about waiting rooms or transport can help you prepare, but another candidate’s score cannot predict yours.

Your final booking checklist

Before paying, put five details in one note: the accepted test name, required score, submission deadline, selected appointment and total budget. Check your identification against the current official requirements and make sure the account details match the document you plan to bring.
