- Charts, diagrams, maps, and data visuals for varied speaking practice.
- Sample answers
- Model responses to compare with your own description, rather than scripts to memorize.

- A self-review routine
- Guidance for recording, comparing, and improving the accuracy and organization of your response.
Describe image PTE templates you can adapt
A template can help organize your thoughts. Replace every bracket with information visible in the image, and leave out any sentence that does not fit. These are optional practice frameworks, not official scoring formulas.
Charts and data visuals
The [chart type] shows [topic] across [categories or time period]. The main feature is [overall pattern]. [Category or point A] is [value], compared with [value] for [B]. Overall, [supported comparison or trend].
Processes, diagrams, and maps
The [diagram or map] illustrates [subject]. The main [stages or features] are [key details]. [Explain the visible sequence or compare locations]. Overall, [observation supported by the visual].
For a process, describe the order of stages. For a map, focus on positions and visible differences. Do not force a highest-and-lowest comparison onto an image without numerical data.
PTE describe image sample answers: what to notice
Useful responses identify the subject, select important details, and end with an observation supported by the image. Here is a short illustrative example created for this page; the PDF contains its own prompts and model responses.
| Activity | Number of students |
|---|---|
| Reading | 40 |
| Listening | 35 |
| Speaking | 25 |
The chart compares the number of students choosing three study activities. Reading is the most popular activity, with 40 students, followed by listening at 35. Speaking has the lowest figure, at 25 students. The difference between reading and speaking is 15 students. Overall, more students chose reading than either of the other two activities.
The response includes the topic, all three values, a comparison, and a clear overview. It does not invent reasons for the students' choices. When reviewing your own answer, use the same accuracy check.
How to practise with the PDF
- Choose one image and keep its sample answer out of sight.
- Identify the subject, main pattern, and two or three useful details. Use the notes area to plan.
- Follow the workbook's practice suggestion: record a description lasting about 30 to 40 seconds.
- Compare your recording with the visual and then the model response. Check facts and organization, not identical wording.
- Repeat the task using clearer phrasing, then return to it later without your notes.
