Acceptance comes before preference

Read the requirements for the exact program or application. Check the named test, delivery option, score thresholds and report validity. Do not infer acceptance from another university, another course or a general country label.

Compare current tasks

Use the official task descriptions for both exams. TOEFL changed in January 2026, so an older comparison of integrated tasks and timings may not describe the test you will book. IELTS also offers different modules and delivery arrangements; choose the relevant one for your comparison.

Try a small diagnostic

Complete representative reading, listening, speaking and writing tasks for each eligible test. Record what was difficult: understanding instructions, responding aloud, organizing writing, using the interface or managing time.
